Azerbaijan calls for increased international funding to achieve SDGs

Azerbaijan continues to attach importance to closing the financial gap in the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said Huseyn Huseynov, Head of the Department of Sustainable Development and Social Policy of Azerbaijan's Economy Ministry.

According to Huseynov, within the framework of these efforts, Azerbaijan is actively using international framework mechanisms and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) investment map, as well as attracting domestic resources.

Huseynov also emphasized that in its four Voluntary National Reviews on the implementation of the SDGs, Azerbaijan presented a set of measures taken to reduce the financial deficit, including cooperation with the UN Department of Social and Economic Affairs. These measures were positively assessed and recommended to other member states.

Recalling the successful outcomes of COP29 held in Baku last November, Huseynov emphasized that Azerbaijan has created a platform for discussing a number of climate goals.

"Support for developing countries in combating climate change was also widely discussed. The Baku Call emphasizes the need for public and private partnerships to achieve key tasks. We call for mobilizing at least $300 billion per year to achieve climate goals by 2035," he said.
