Deputy PM: Economic recovery in post-conflict period becomes huge challenge

Azerbaijan's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is of a strategic nature and is aimed at achieving concrete results, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov said at the 4th International Conference on Financing and Development (FFD4) held in Seville, Spain, Report informs.

Sharifov recalled that Azerbaijan is one of five countries in the world and the first in the region to submit the four Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the implementation of the SDGs.

The Azerbaijani Deputy PM noted that the increase in geopolitical tensions and military conflicts seriously undermines the funding base for the SDGs.

"Post-conflict economic recovery has become another huge challenge for the budgets of states. My country is also facing this. For many years, Azerbaijan has had to direct significant financial resources to combat the occupation of 20 percent of its territory by neighboring Armenia," he said.
