Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry has expressed gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan for its assistance in evacuating Kazakh citizens from Iran, according to Report's Kazakhstan bureau.

Aibek Smadiyarov, the spokesperson for Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, said that over the past two days, six Kazakh nationals were evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan with the help of Azerbaijani colleagues.

Another 68 Kazakh citizens — mostly family members of Kazakh diplomats — were evacuated with support from Turkmen authorities.

"We express our gratitude to our Azerbaijani and Turkmen colleagues for their assistance in this issue," Smadiyarov said.

Smadiyarov said that evacuating this many people in such tense conditions within 24 hours required enormous effort.

He added that, according to current data, there are 132 Kazakh citizens in Iran and 219 in Israel.

"The Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to closely monitor the situation in the area of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran," Smadiyarov noted.
